ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Lara Glenn Blanchette
Once upon a time… in a town near New York City, I was born…
Okay… perhaps only a brief summary of my childhood is necessary. My parents were, and still are great, I worked hard in school, and I had an imaginary friend named Gertrude. That about sums it up… minus a lot of details.
I went to college at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. This was a very special time for me. Along with getting my engineering degree, WPI is where I met my wonderful husband.
Upon receiving a BS in engineering, I began a job as a process engineer at a printed circuit board manufacturing facility. Engineering is an important job and something well-worth considering as children evaluate the possibilities for their future.
Personally, I needed a creative outlet to offset the logic and structure of a technical career. At 23 years old, I completed my first novel. Over the next twenty years, one novel became five, most of which will never see the light of day. Soon after the birth of my daughter, I decided to retire from engineering and begin writing more seriously.
A few years ago, the phrase, “Tell me a story Morning Glory” popped into my head and I started thinking about what a great title that would be for a children’s book. From that point on, I put all my focus into writing a children’s book to go along with the title.
My love for Dr. Suess, most notably, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, led me to write a rhyming book.
When my story was complete I began considering what to do about illustrations. While the thought of doing my own drawings was exciting, a diagnosis of Epilepsy, at the age of six, has resulted in shaking hands due to both the disease and the subsequent treatment. Fortunately, technological advances have resulted in art software with pen stabilizers. That is how my love for drawing began.
As I sit here, writing this bio, I still can’t believe that I have written and illustrated two books. As a result of Tell me a Story Morning Glory, I have created this website and am thrilled to provide coloring printouts and rhyming challenges to any child who wants them.
Enjoy!
